SOUNDS IN And FROM THE UPPER ROOM

"..Suddenly a SOUND like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them..." Acts 2:2-4 (NIV)

The big ear at the front symbolizes the sounds that were being heard in the upper room... Were these sounds heard by the physical ears or by the spiritual ears? Perhaps both - since it seems the people outside the building started to gather because of what they, too, were hearing... Were the sounds this loud that the whole neighbourhood or marketplace could hear it, or was it the supernatural aspects of this event that caused many people to hear what was going on? Did the others also hear the sound like the blowing of a violent wind, or did only the disciples in the upper room hear that sound? What was going on in the things the disciples were speaking as they were given other tongues? Was it praise? Were they prophesying? In any case, it was in accordance with God's will and God's sounds always have impact. In fact the Bible tells us that the whole universe is sustained and holds together by the power of His Word.

Sound is very important in Scripture and it seems there is a growing realization of this in the Body to help prepare us for the season the Holy Spirit is leading His Church into. Even the study of quantum physics has some fascinating theories about sound in the universe, which basically seem to come to the conclusions that God laid out for us when the Word was given to man about the universe coming into being and being sustained through sound, etc. I suspect there is much more that happened in the Upper Room that day regarding SOUND, than we have any idea!
