CUTTING THROUGH THE CHAINS
This scene depicts the love and compassion of a disciple of Jesus who is spending time getting to know and share the struggles of a prostitute who is being held captive not only by her trade but many aspects of her life - physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is through love and through prayer that Jesus sets captives free from their 'balls and chains'.
"I will go before you and will level the mountains [1] ; I will
break down gates of bronze
and cut through bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches
stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD , the God
of Israel, who summons you by name. For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel
my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though
you do not acknowledge me." Isaiah 45:2-4 (NIV)
Psalm 107: 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and
his wonderful deeds for men, 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts
through bars of iron. (NIV)
God’s heart is for the oppressed – for example the prostitute who
has become enslaved (notice the ball and chain). As we pray, we can depend
on our great God to begin to cut through the bars of iron because He knows
what treasures reside in each one! Are we willing to go into the darkness
to find the treasures?
