Grace Wiebe, a life-long musician, recently (early 2003) began to craft her 'EthniClay' creations as an additional form of artistic expression due to increasing physical disabilities which severely restrict her from playing piano - which has been a life-long passion, and which have basically kept her home-bound for the past decade due to other severe physical limitations. So having an additional outlet of creativity and diversity in activity was a felt need.
Grace developed severe rheumatoid arthritis in her early
teens, and after more than 30 years of the increasing arthritis and its crippling
effects throughout her body, has recently begun to sculpt these figurines
despite her mis-shapen fingers / hands. She is able to work with the modelling
clay and has chosen this medium rather than using marble, soap-stone or wood,
etc. because the modelling clay is soft enough to be manageable with her fingers
and hands as they are.
Grace is also a musician/songwriter, writer, etc., works
full-time to support herself from her home office and enjoys a full life even
though she has been almost completely home-bound since 1997. Some additional
aspects of Grace's involvements can be seen at: web
site.
Grace experiences many challenges in her life but finds crafting these sculptures both very enjoyable and rewarding. She attributes the ability to create these sculptures and the peace and joy she experiences in the midst of her challenges to the amazing GRACE OF GOD; thus, the 'expressions of God's grace'.
Her desire is that some of the sense of God's amazing grace
and love would be communicated through her art and be a blessing to all who
see the figurines!
